FEBRUARY 2015 EDITION

Dear Colleague,

Greetings from Cologne!

We welcome Guido Siebenmorgen from REWE Group as our new GLOBALG.A.P. Board member. His goal is to strengthen the sustainability aspect of GLOBALG.A.P., and I strongly believe that this is only feasible through continuous efficiency improvements of our certification programs as well as through effective partnerships.

“There is still far too much duplication of audit standards on fruit and vegetable farms. Collaboration is the fastest way to reduce them,” explained Guy Callebaut, Vice-Chairman of the Board VBT/BelOrta, Grower, and GLOBALG.A.P. Chairman of the Board, at our annual news conference at Fruit Logistica in Berlin.

We also announced additional partnerships, and in particular with Rainforest Alliance. I signed an agreement with the CEO of Bayer Crop Science to roll out a global training program based on their BayGAP training tool. Concerning compound feed, our partnership with GMP+ International is entering the design phase, and the new Friend of the Sea (FoS) Add-On Module for Aquaculture is now operational.

I wish to thank all of you who have submitted comments during the first public consultation of the IFA Standard Draft Version 5. Our team is busy processing them to present them to the technical committees as well as prepare the documents for the second and final round of public consultation taking place between March and June.

In this month’s issue, you will read a lot about training: Retailer Billa in Bulgaria with localg.a.p., Farm Assurers in Columbia, and smallholder clusters in South Africa. We announce the successful benchmark of two flowers and ornamentals schemes, BOPP UK and EHPEA Ethopia. And the largest banana plantation under GLOBALG.A.P. Certification, Bonita in Ecuador, has completed the GRASP assessment, our risk assessment for social practices on farms.

Find out more about training opportunities and workshops with our team coming to your region, and be sure to check out our TOUR stops for 2015 for a valuable opportunity to meet up with us in person. And I am confident that this new Chinese Year of the Sheep will bear fruitful and innovative prospects for your business and for GLOBALG.A.P.

Best regards,
Kristian Moeller
CEO, GLOBALG.A.P.
