GLOBALG.A.P. Community Newsletter Logo

AUGUST 2015 EDITION

Dear Colleague,

Greetings from Cologne!

We are absolutely delighted to welcome our first retail member from the Middle East: Fine Fare Food Market LLC/Spinneys. They also announced their decision to join the GLOBALG.A.P. member community by requesting from all their fresh produce suppliers to adopt GLOBALG.A.P. Certification in the course of the new season. We plan to assist them with various activities to support the spread of Good Agricultural Practices in this fast-developing region.

And another 100% commitment came in from Asia: the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) has announced their ruling to make GLOBALG.A.P. Certification mandatory for farmers starting from 2016.

We continue to enjoy widespread support throughout the Southern Hemisphere continents. Over the past month we held GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR 2015 Stops in New Zealand and South Africa. Our reports in this edition show how longstanding partnerships and strong commitments to GLOBALG.A.P. Certification nurture the drive to develop and introduce innovative solutions within the framework of our Integrated Farm Assurance Standard Version 5 (IFA V5). Active GLOBALG.A.P. National Technical Working Groups (NTWG) can play an instrumental role in sparking such innovation. As a first pragmatic tool, we have published the template to develop the National Interpretation Guideline for IFA V5 for Fruit & Vegetables. Interested partners may also seek inspiration from existing NTWG best practice here.

We have released new innovations and support publications for our community:
Here’s a list of other developments in our global community:
The key challenge over the next 12 months is training our 155,000 producers under certification worldwide on the new features of IFA V5. Our growing network of GLOBALG.A.P. Licensed Farm Assurers, along with the list of partners to facilitate their training, will play a central role in this effort.
Here a list of upcoming IFA V5 Capacity Building and Farm Assurer Workshops:
Please feel free to contact us if you’re interested in partnering with us to bring about progress toward safer and more sustainable agricultural production worldwide.

Best regards,
Kristian Moeller
CEO, GLOBALG.A.P.

Please note that in our July issue we featured the story entitled "US Tomato Grower Backyard Farms Is First to Obtain GLOBALG.A.P. Harmonized Produce Safety Standard Certification". Due to editorial oversight, we did not mention that this certification was performed by the certification body and associate member Quality Certification Services (QCS) based in Gainesville, Florida.
