Carrefour China, a member of Carrefour, one of the world’s leading retailers, has successfully obtained a GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer License. Carrefour China is now part of a growing network of food safety assurance consultants dedicated to raising public and industry awareness and expanding the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices all over China.

We are honored to become a GLOBALG.A.P. Licensed Farm Assurer. China is an agricultural country, making quality and food safety control very important. There is strong market and government effort in China to gradually move toward achieving the same levels of food safety as the rest of the world. Being a Farm Assurer gives us the opportunity to communicate with other experts from different countries and learn about other advanced farm management principles.

The GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer License also enables us to work closely with GLOBALG.A.P. and other members of the G.A.P. community to launch and implement various projects to help improve the quality of agricultural products in China. GLOBALG.A.P. gives us a strong technical and scientific background that we can rely on in our daily business,” said Xu Kai, Quality Manager, Carrefour China.

Carrefour China has introduced several projects and initiatives to help its agriculture suppliers gradually improve their food safety levels in line with GLOBALG.A.P. requirements.

Some of these projects include:

  1. Organizing direct purchasing training in every province in China to train farms on how to scientifically manage their operations and implement traceability.
  2. Launching specific capacity building projects to offer selected suppliers step-by-step training on G.A.P. principles.
  3. Increasing public awareness on food safety by organizing lectures for customers, which include visits to farms.
  4. Working with GLOBALG.A.P., universities, and local governments to develop new local regulations based on GLOBALG.A.P. principles.

“The ability to provide quality training is another key benefit of the GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer License. As qualified and licensed ATPs (Authority Training Persons), we can train farmers on how to implement G.A.P. in their farm management and production processes. We can also train the next generation of G.A.P. consultants and controllers by collaborating with both universities and local governments. This particular effort to raise farmer and student awareness on the importance of good agricultural practices is a valuable investment and an important duty. We hope to attract many more students to become GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurers and play an essential role in the future of the agricultural industry in China,” added Xu Kai, Quality Manager, Carrefour China.
