HDG, the fruit consultants, is the world's largest survey and inspection company specialized in fruit and vegetables with offices in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and China. The main fields of performance are quality inspections, surveys in case of claims and international claim handling. HDG also provides consultancy, training of staff and other advisory services. The company combines state-of-the-art IT technology with high-quality service, integrity, reliability, experience and profound knowledge in order to provide utmost customer satisfaction.

HDG has almost 40 employees and is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, as well as Lisbon, Portugal. It has been a specialist in fruit and vegetables since 1981. Working for importers, exporters and the insurance industry, it has developed extensive experience in this field. By expanding its operations and working with companies worldwide, HDG has been able to build a strong name in the market and expanded its network with international surveyors. The company benefits greatly from its cooperation with IberoAgro Expertise, a company based in Valencia, Spain, conducting quality controls. Great leaps have recently been taken by establishing the subsidiaries HDG Services in Waddinxveen, the Netherlands, and HDG Asia in Shanghai, China.

A further great leap for the company was the recent approval as a GLOBALG.A.P. member. “ GLOBALG.A.P. ensures that globally connected farmers and brand owners provide safe food to consumers. HDG, the fruit consultants, helps to safeguard food safety and to promote quality insurance by conducting excellent quality inspections and surveys on fruits and vegetables. It was therefore a logical step for us to become an approved member of GLOBALG.A.P.,” explains Stijn Verstijnen, Commercial Director of HDG B.V.

Fruit and vegetables are particularly sensitive, which is why HDG carries out quality controls with great care. A representative sample is taken from the consignment and inspected according to European standards. Various parameters including flesh pressures, maturity, color, brix readings, bruising, skin defects, decay and visible residues are measured, and detailed temperature measurements taken at relevant locations. These and many more factors are all taken into account and then rapidly reported.
