Citrusvil SA, a GLOBALG.A.P. certified company dedicated to the production, processing and marketing of lemon and its derivatives, has become the first producer in Argentina to pass the GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP).

Achieving GRASP was part of the company's social responsibility policy, where the commitment to their employees is a priority. The voluntary add-on assessment helps producers establish a good social management system on their farms, and offers buyers an additional warranty. It also helps protect one of the most important resources of a company: its people.

“By caring for our workers and giving them the appropriate tools to help them do the best work they can, we motivate them on daily basis and this translates into major productivity and profitability for our company. This was our reason for choosing to do the GLOBALG.A.P. GRASP assessment. Giving our workers the recognition they deserve is our way of expressing our gratitude to their great efforts and labor, which supports the growth of our company for the benefit of all,” said Noelia Lescano, Quality Responsible at Citrusvil S.A.

Citrusvil S.A. was established in the 70s in the region of Tucumán in Argentina as a primary citric producer. In the 80s it added value to its production chain through the incorporation of the packaging and marketing of fresh fruit to international markets. Shortly after, citrus exports rose rapidly making the company one of the pioneering industries in the province. As part of its goal to provide excellent quality products, the company achieved GLOBALG.A.P. Certification.

The producer operates 16 farms and hires around 3800 employees to harvest the lemon fields. In this way, making it one of the largest employment generators at regional and national levels. The company was audited to assess its social practices, specifically issues relating to health, safety and the workers welfare and included interviews and documentation relating to the employees’ working conditions and community relations. This comprehensive audit concluded that Citrusvil complied with good social practices on their farms and packing facilities.
