TRANSPARENCY IS NOW JUST A SCAN AWAY: QR CODE FOR AQUACULTURE

Aquaculture producers can now give consumers instant re-assurance with the new GLOBALG.A.P. Design QR code. Using their GGN, the Design QR code links straight back to the GLOBALG.A.P. Database and instantly confirms the validity of their certificate.

GLOBALG.A.P. BOOKMARKING AND BOOKMARK SHARING

GLOBALG.A.P. Bookmarking is a timesaving management tool. By bookmarking their registered producers, suppliers and buyers can generate online lists of their certified producers supplying them, including the respective GGN and products covered by the certificate, which make it easy to manage and monitor the certification status of their GLOBALG.A.P. certified producers on a regular basis.

The GLOBALG.A.P. Database also offers another timesaving management service: Bookmark Sharing. Suppliers and buyers can share their bookmarking lists with selected business partners throughout the supply chain. As these lists are online, the displayed certification status and other information remains up-to-date.

FIRST AQUACULTURE CERTIFICATE IN THE U.S.

Troutlodge, Inc. (Sumner, WA, USA) became the first aquaculture company in North America to achieve the GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture Standard, covering the company’s production of eyed Rainbow trout eggs in the USA.All eggs produced by Troutlodge’s operations in Washington State, USA will be certified under this program, as the company believes demand for GLOBALG.A.P.-certified eggs will continue to grow in the coming years.

“This is important for us and for our customers,” says Andrew Barfoot, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Troutlodge. “We began this process at the request of two key customers in Turkey who are certified under this GLOBALG.A.P. program, and thus require that their egg supplier also obtain the same levels of certification. We are glad to be able to meet their needs, as well as the needs of a growing number of our customers who are considering certification under this and similar programs.”

FARMERS IN TRANSITION FUND: FARMED SHRIMPS

Public funds are now available for shrimp farmers and feed suppliers to help them initiate certification of their production farms and facilities, which in turn gives them greater access to national and international markets.

IDH started the Farmers in Transition Fund (FIT Fund) to support farmers to implement more sustainable practices that meet buying requirements and help to future proof the sector by improving social and environmental performance. The FIT Fund aims to accelerate shrimp farmers transition to farming methods that deliver responsible and traceable shrimp. Depending on the business profile, the shrimp species produced and the type of production system, the FIT Fund can provide for specific technical or financial support.

Improvements in the condition of production will be measured against the GLOBALG.A.P. IFA V4 Aquaculture Standard. For more information, please contact Valeska Weyman at weyman@globalgap.org.
