The second edition of the Consumer Goods Forum's annual Sustainable Retail Summit took place in Montreal, Canada, on 2-3 October this year. GLOBALG.A.P. was proud to be involved in such an event, a collaborative effort from consumer goods and retail business leaders who continue to pursue socially and economically sustainable business processes.

Over 210 delegates from more than 20 countries arrived to share their knowledge. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we hosted the networking cocktail and dinner event at the Science Center on 2 October and presented how the GLOBALG.A.P. standards can help companies to meet some of the targets set out in the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. A key part of the Sustainable Retail Summit is the Consumer Goods Forum's pillars of work: health and wellness, environmental sustainability and social sustainability. Recently, there has been a clear call to action because consumers are calling for sustainable products that will allow them to live healthier lives, and it is up to the industry to meet these expectations.

A number of presentations gave an ideal opportunity for people to learn about the positive actions that companies are taking to meet consumers' demands. The summit offered positive solutions going forward for tackling problems in the industry, including efforts to eradicate forced labor, reduce and measure food loss and waste, and support overall lifestyles that are healthier through better diets.

Within this positive, collaborative environment, many of the delegates shared how their company or organization was overcoming the challenges they were facing in their sector. The importance of collaboration between retailers, service providers, and manufacturers was highlighted as a way of building on individual efforts.

Next year's Sustainable Retail Summit will be held in Lisbon.
