GLOBALG.A.P. Press Release - Seafood Expo Global, 7 May 2014

Now 16 Aquaculture Species and a Consumer Label

GLOBALG.A.P. on the Way to Becoming a Full-Range Solution for Responsibly Farmed Seafood with New Strategic Links to Consumer Communication

Friend of the Sea – FOS Aquaculture Recognizes GLOBALG.A.P. Certificates

Friend of the Sea – FOS – and GLOBALG.A.P. announce a collaboration that offers consumer labeling for more than two million tons of aquaculture products.

GLOBALG.A.P. certified aquaculture farms will only need to be assessed against a few additional sustainability criteria to become eligible to use the international consumer sustainability FOS label for aquaculture. This recognition reduces duplication of farm audits considerably. In return, FOS certified farms will be able to add the GLOBALG.A.P. audit with the next annual re-certification audit.

Consumers will be able to recognize seafood products covered by the collaboration as they carry the FOS label with the claim: “Responsibly farmed” and the GLOBALG.A.P. farm number: “GGN 1234567891092”.

Feed Industry Committed to Sustainability

The Norwegian National Technical Group for GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture and Aquafeed has initiated a working group on Responsible Operations Standard for Feed Manufacturers. The goal is to involve more stakeholders in this development. Coordination with other certification schemes for compound feed is taking place to provide more efficient solutions for the industry. To date, there are 23 countries with GLOBALG.A.P. certified compound feed worldwide.

GLOBALG.A.P. Now Certifies Aquaponics Systems for Tilapia and Open Ocean Submerged Cages for Cobia

GLOBALG.A.P. has now added tilapia produced in aquaponics and cobia produced in open ocean submerged cage systems to its growing list of certifiable species and systems. Combined with its full production chain verification program, this expansion moves GLOBALG.A.P. one step closer to becoming a full-range solution for responsibly farmed seafood. To date, there are 29 countries with GLOBALG.A.P. certified operations worldwide covering 16 different species.
