The Crops for Processing (CfP) Focus Group has completed work on the draft standard document of the CfP Standard presented for public consultation in September 2015.

The Standard covers the growing of plants and crops used for further processing, such as cooking, freezing, and juicing as well as for feed.

The CfP Focus Group has agreed that the Crops for Processing Standard will mostly align with the GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance Standard, with the two key differences being the risk-based approach to food safety and the auditing rules.

1. The Risk-Based Approach to Food Safety
Since the scope of the CfP Standard covers products (fruit, vegetables and combinable crops) that will undergo further manufacturing and processing, the food safety risks on farm level are different from those for produce destined for the fresh produce market. As a result, there may be various points that cannot be applicable on farm level (depending on the link with the processor).

2. The Auditing Rules
The certification rules include verified self-assessments, inspected self-assessments or inspections by third parties every 3 years.

The Crops for Processing (CfP) Standard is open for the second public consultation from 23 June to 7 August 2016!
