The GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR 2013 conference in Tucumán, Argentina kicks off with a highly inspiring event that attracted the leading experts for on-farm food safety and sustainability in the region.

Held in collaboration with IDEP - Instituto de Desarrollo Productivo de Tucumán on 17-18 April 2013, the highly anticipated two-day event attracted more than 200 participants from different parts of Argentina and Latin America as well as representatives of national and international buyers, and the country's farming industry. Conference key speakers included leading local retailers (Libertad) and international retailers (Carrefour Argentina and Spain), public sector organizations (SENASA), leading producers/exporters (Citromax, Ledesma), and producer associations (Freshfel). The conference was also attended by two GLOBALG.A.P. Board members, Mari-Carmen Morales and Richard Yudin, as well as Flavio Alzueta, GLOBALG.A.P. Director Marketing and Strategy.

“I was quite impressed by the number and technical level of the attendance, the quality of the presentations and the depth of discussion, both on and off the record. The organization and delivery of the event were excellent. A great credit goes to the local organizers and sponsors for their outstanding efforts.”
Richard Yudin, GLOBALG.A.P. Board member, Supplier Representative

Using case studies from Latin America and Spain, GLOBALG.A.P. representatives demonstrated how GLOBALG.A.P. Certification helps smallholders gain access to the international market and has a positive impact on the quality of work and life of certified producers. Flavio Alzueta introduced the GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurers and explained how a pool of these licensed consultants will be set up in Argentina to transfer accurate and up-to-date knowledge of the GLOBALG.A.P. System to new producers as well as help them achieve GLOBALG.A.P. Certification.

The leading companies in the Argentinian citrus industry presented their latest developments regarding food safety, social welfare and environmental protection and expressed their continued commitment to GLOBALG.A.P. Major players and stakeholders in the food chain industry also reinforced their commitment to helping eliminate requirements duplication and extra costs for producers and securing GLOBALG.A.P.’s position as the best system worldwide for reducing food safety risks, minimizing the negative impact of farming on the environment, and ensuring good social practice in the production process. They also agreed that localg.a.p. is the best tool for helping regional suppliers improve their good agricultural practice, achieve GLOBALG.A.P. Certification and access local markets.
