TOUR 2017 Romania - Retail Market Demands GLOBALG.A.P. Certification from Farmers

In an effort to secure sourcing of safe and quality products according to the highest standards, the Romanian retail market, producer associations, and the government are openly encouraging the country’s farmers to achieve GLOBALG.A.P. Certification.

INAQ Consulting, a producer consulting company, organized the TOUR stop in Bucharest on 24 February, which attracted more than 130 delegates from around the country and Poland. The second edition of the GLOBALG.A.P. conference in Romania brought together agricultural producers, various agricultural service and product providers, academics, and prominent representatives of foreign embassies and chambers of commerce in Romania.  

GLOBALG.A.P. speakers Mr. Andras Fekete, Vice President & Chief Integrity Officer, and Mr. Kliment Petrov, Expert, GLOBALG.AP Integrity Assessments & Training, provided an introduction of the GLOBALG.A.P. system, and an overview of the entire certification process. This was followed by various presentations that showed how the GLOBALG.A.P. standard can be implemented, the costs and benefits, and how to help Romanian farmers sell their crops on the national and European markets.

Mr. Florin Bercu, Head of PRO AGRO, a producer association, announced during the event that it will support its members to obtain GLOBALG.A.P. Certification. He sees this as yet another marketing support for producers that perfectly fulfils European and global market demands because, “we all want to eat fresh produce, and the short supply chain plays a crucial role in this respect. We encourage direct partnerships between producers, various agricultural associations, and local commercial networks and the community market,” said Florin Bercu.

The PRO AGRO representative also proposed the publication of a guide for good agricultural practices regarding the technical characteristics and quality of food products, to be jointly developed by producer organizations, retailers, and the National Federation PRO AGRO.

Mr. Adrian Radulescu, President of the Farmers Association in Romania and one of the best connoisseurs of the problems facing farmers in the country, stated GLOBALG.A.P. certification presented enormous benefits to Romanian farmers as it provides direct access to large retail chains stores in Romania and in Europe.

LIDL representative, Mr. Alexander Mag, Purchasing Manager Vegetables & Fruits, presented the retailer’s requirements on the quality of its sourced fruits and vegetables and confirmed LIDL’s decision to accept only GLOBALG.A.P. certified suppliers as of 1 September 2017.

Poland provided business inspiration and valuable insights into the implementation and success achieved from GLOBALG.A.P. certification. Mr. Miroslav Maziarka, Director of Quality and Technical at Amplus, one of the leading Polish producers and distributors of fresh fruits and vegetables, showcased how GLOBALG.A.P. certification has helped Polish farmers become some of the biggest exporters of fruits and vegetables in Europe.

Other invited speakers presented solutions for intelligent farming processes and management. Mr. Adrian Balao, General Manager at AB Frigo Consult, presented the latest methods of efficient electrical energy and maximizing profits through the proper maintenance of refrigeration.

Mr. Sebastien Record, GEOSYS representative, discussed how technology can be used to gain a deeper understanding of natural processes and how to optimize inputs. Using satellite imagery, delegates learned about the various stages of vegetation and crop health, and the variable application of fertilizer and how to manage it in an integrated way.

Ms. Loredana Voicu-Gide, Business Developer Professional Training, presented the Black Sea training program, which covers both agribusiness executive business management and the technical aspects of the business component.

Mr. Ionut Nache, CEO of INAQ Consulting, hosted yet another successful event in Romania and announced a third edition of the conference: GLOBALG.A.P. 2018 in February of next year. , “ GLOBALG.A.P. conference has become a tradition in Romania and we are proud to bring in international industry buzz each year for local farmers.” said Ionut Nache.
