The company Aromáticas Vivas, Lda. was founded in 2009 in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, by Swedeponic group with the participation of local partners. The Swedeponic is one of the largest producers of potted herbs and the only European company with production in several European countries (7 production sites). The main goals are to:

  4. Encourage the use of herbs in cooking and emphasize its healthy aspects.
  5. Educate consumers to care the plants and encourage them to treat the herbs in their homes.

The company uses the best and most developed technical and scientific knowledge, hi-tech production technology for the Portuguese and Spanish markets. In the perspective of customers and partners, the goal is also the use of smart features and future proven in business for continuous development of employees and technology. Our products are the pots in organic production, cut herbs and biological agents to control pests and diseases. On 3 hectares of facilities, our greenhouses are glass and produce 9 varieties of herbs in pots. The production is performed in a gutter system and irrigation is done by fertigation. With investment in heating equipment, the production of different varieties is done continuously. The company produces biotic agents for biological control of pests and diseases for consumption.

The Aromatic Vivas is a company that cares about the environment and the health of its customers. We follow the pesticide-free philosophy, not using any product in our herbs, thus ensuring the freshness and safety of our products. To combat pests, we produce and use our own auxiliary insects that allow us to maintain a healthy and culture that is rich in biodiversity. The irrigation system in closed loop was specifically built with one goal: economic water consumption. This system allows us, as the name says, to fertilize and irrigate the plants at the same time, that is, as we water we are providing the plants with the nutrients necessary for their proper development. In closed loop means that the irrigation water that is not absorbed by the plants is not lost and enters recirculation being adjusted to be re-used. The advantage of being a closed circuit, is mainly economic and environmental. The mode of production of herbs Aromatic Vivas is organic, also certified. Our greenhouses are made of glass, a more durable material and less pollutant to the environment, since the plastic greenhouses require a periodic change plastic producing a large amount of non-biodegradable material. In this fact, greenhouses glass has about 40% less energy loss from the heating respect to plastic greenhouses, so that in addition to reducing the need for heating and consequently CO2, optimizes heating capabilities. Although greenhouses are prepared with heating and dehumidification equipment, techniques are used to minimize energy costs and expenses, such as opening windows to perform ventilation in summer glasses are whitened to lower the temperature inside the greenhouses to avoid using equipment cooling.

The plants as they grow will be more spaced from each other. The plant spacing traditional systems only allow to space the plants once or twice throughout the culture. Meanwhile, in our system we can space the plants 6 to 8 times. This system enables the plants to always have the right space for their development, bringing great benefits on both the physiological and the climacteric level as to increase the space between plants enables it to grow properly, with enough space and above all improves air circulation, reducing the relative humidity, thus permitting reduction in the problems related plant diseases. The plants like to be cherished and the scientific term is Thigmomorphogenesis. Therefore, we used the passage flaps constantly in plants and allows these to grow stronger. These are all techniques that reduce the environmental impact of production and contribute to sustainability in agriculture.
