The GLOBALG.A.P. Integrity Program, the first of its kind, is active around the world to explain and harmonize the standard’s criteria through different kinds of Certification Body (CB) trainings; by monitoring CB performance through CB office and producer assessments; by investigating complaints; and improving the GLOBALG.A.P. System by collecting the feedback from all these activities and providing the input for the standard’s development.

It also includes the protection of the GLOBALG.A.P. brand by monitoring and controlling the proper use of claims, completeness and accuracy of the information in the GLOBALG.A.P. Database, compliance with contractual agreements and the control of potential frauds. The analysis of complaints and information regarding non-compliances or misuses are used to program integrity assessments and forwarded to the CBs.

Certification Body Trainings

Every CB working in the GLOBALG.A.P. System has to have a Scheme Manager, who has to attend an annual update workshop (SMU – Scheme Manager Update workshop), and an In-House Trainer, who is scope-specific, and responsible for the training of auditors and inspectors, and has to attend a face-to-face training (IHT – In House Trainer training) and pass an exam on the content of the whole GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) Standard for every standard’s version.

All GLOBALG.A.P. approved auditors, who are the ones auditing the Quality Management Systems (QMS) of producer groups and multisite producers, have to attend a face-to-face training and pass an exam on how to audit the GLOBALG.A.P. QMS (QMS Auditor training). And all GLOBALG.A.P. approved auditors and inspectors have to pass an online exam per standard version on the content of General Regulations (GRs) and Control Points and Compliance Criteria (CPCCs).

Between January and July 2016, approximately 1,000 GLOBALG.A.P. auditors and inspectors passed the online exam for IFA Version 5 and 300 auditors and inspectors passed the online exam for Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard Version 5.

Certification Body Office and Producer Assessments (Jan – July 2016):

The aim of CB office and producer assessments is to verify that certification activities carried out by CBs are carried out in accordance with the scheme’s normative documents (General Regulations, License Agreement, Control Points and Compliance Criteria, etc.).

Between January and July 2016, six new CBs were approved for different GLOBALG.A.P. scopes (Fruit & Vegetables, Chain of Custody, Plant Propagation Material, Flowers and Ornamentals and CBL-Chain of Custody Slaughterhouses). One CB stopped working with the standard.

By the end of July the number of GLOBALG.A.P. approved CBs was 149. During the first half of 2016, 20% of those CBs were under assessment.

Integrity Assessments Performed from January to July 2016 please find here

During 2016 a new Integrity Assessor was incorporated in the team, which currently consists of 6 assessors covering the following languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Bulgarian and Greek.

After review of the reports, CB assessments are classified according to their performance:

1 (Unacceptable performance: GLOBALG.A.P. to take action immediately); 2 (Very poor performance: CB needs major improvement); 3 (Inadequate performance: CB needs some improvement); 4 (Acceptable performance) and 5 (Performance well above average).

Evolution of CB Performance during Integrity Assessments (2008 – July 2016) please find here

Since the start of the Integrity Program in 2008, a clear decline of CBs with unacceptable or very poor performances during integrity assessments (Classifications 1 and 2) can be seen. Acceptable performance (Classification 4) is growing in %, but there are still CBs that show a need for improvement (Classification 3). Continuous monitoring based on risk assessment is a key factor to keep these values improving.
