After a long break, the European events circuit made an impressive comeback with the in-person
return of
Fruit Attraction in Madrid,
Spain, held on 5–7 October.
Promising signs for industry events
Representing the largest professional community in the fruit and vegetables sector, the 2021
fair was highly successful and achieved 82% of the attendance at the last face-to-face Fruit
Attraction event in 2019.
Participation numbers showed positive signs for the future, with over 1,300 companies from 44
countries and accredited trade visitors from 105 countries taking part. Interestingly, 21% of the
estimated 95,000 visitors were first-time attendees.
The GLOBALG.A.P. delegation was able to reconnect with many members and certification bodies
at the event, as well as share exciting news regarding the revision of GLOBALG.A.P.’s flagship
Integrated Farm Assurance standard (due for implementation in April 2022).
Smart approach to sustainability
As part of Eurofresh’s Biofruit Congress on 5 October, Ami von Beyme, Key Account Manager at
GLOBALG.A.P., presented the revision of version 6 of the IFA standard, along with its smart
approach to sustainability. The Biofruit Congress focused closely on the issue of rising consumer
demand for engagement with environmental and social issues.
GLOBALG.A.P.’s presentation showcased the simplification of certification systems for all
supply chain stakeholders, making them clearer for producers and consumers alike.
The program of talks was also streamed simultaneously on Fruit Attraction’s LIVEConnect
platform. The 14th edition of the fair is scheduled to take place in Madrid on 4–6 October
2022.
