"Each farm deserves this recognition for their hard work. We are proud to showcase their achievements to provide an example to other farmers around the world." 

GLOBALG.A.P. announced the winners of the 2018 G.A.P. Awards during a special ceremony at its biennial summit in Peru. GLOBALG.A.P. initiated the G.A.P. Awards in 2012 to honor GLOBALG.A.P. certified producers who have achieved outstanding results through their commitment to GLOBALG.A.P. principles and the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices. Winners show producers that success is possible with sustainable farming practices.

Five judges focused on three categories: Talent for Agriculture, Women, and Youth - Water and Soil Management - Integration of Smallholders. Subcategories included created value, innovative practices and technologies, public and private push for partnerships and co-operations, and CO2 emission reduction and other climate-friendly practices. They also considered each farm's powerful story.

Technical Committee Crops, IP Ltd./ASDA; Paul Bol, Vice-Chairman Technical Committee Crops, Groenten Fruit Huis; and Andrew Ward, Stewardship Director, Croplife International, made the final determination.

The Winners' Achievements:

PHILPACK had a negative CF carbon footprint from 2008 to 2015 and played an instrumental role in establishing the pineapple industry and using drones to monitor plants in the Philippines. It also created an Innovation Congress for employees to provide process improvement feedback.

Varcli Pinares S.A. created the first solar-powered banana packing process in the world and signed the TR4 Declaration. It also reduced water consumption by 97 percent per banana box and implemented one of the most efficient and least harmful harvesting methods.

Australian Fresh Leaf Herbs/The Leaf Farm became one of Australia's biggest fresh herbs suppliers in less than eight years. It created an app to monitor every production chain detail and then shared this technology with other farmers. It also received a massive investment from the government to build an educational institution.

ALARA TARIM ÜRÜNLERİ SAN. VE TİC. A.Ş. increased productivity using cutting-edge automated sorting-packing equipment. The farm minimized waste during transport and storage with an online real-time temperature control system. It also analyzed every product by certified growers to reduce excess use of chemicals.
