Seven seats on the GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board are now open for election. But who is on the Advisory Board already and how can you vote? Read on to find out.  

What is the GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board?  

The Advisory Board works very closely with the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat in Cologne (FoodPLUS GmbH) to adopt the GLOBALG.A.P. family of standards and revisions, determine strategy, design the standard setting procedure, appoint technical committees and focus groups, and consult on significant changes that might affect the GLOBALG.A.P. standards. FoodPLUS GmbH executive management listens to advice from the Advisory Board when making decisions. 

Who is currently on the board?  

There are 14 seats in total, and each is filled by a representative elected by GLOBALG.A.P. members.* Half of the board must represent producer/supplier organizations. The other seven seats are filled by representatives from retailer/food service organizations.

The following members were elected in 2019 and will continue to complete their four-year terms on the Advisory Board:  

Hugo Hays, Enrique Ameghino, Eloy Quiñones, Francisco Contreras, Yukiyo Komatsu, Gary Jones, and Miina Mälgand Hansen 

Which seats are up for election?  

For the 2021 election, there are 7 seats are up for election according to the following criteria:  

  • 3 supplier seats for Crops (at least one of which must represent Europe) 

  • 1 supplier seat for Livestock 

  • 1 supplier seat for Aquaculture 

  • 2 retailer seats 

Who can stand for election?  

GLOBALG.A.P. members from the producer/supplier and retailer/food service industries are invited to run for election to the GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board. This year’s application period was from 8 April to 13 May. Former or current board members may stand for re-election, as long as their total time on the board has not exceeded 12 years.  

How does one vote? 

From 27 May 2021, GLOBALG.A.P. retail and food service members and producer and supplier members are invited by email to vote for the candidates of their member type. The election process is independently managed by the external financial auditors of FoodPLUS GmbH. 

Voting closes at 11:59p.m.CEST on 17 June 2021.
