German based retailer Lidl expands their demand for certification to their suppliers of flowers and ornamentals. GLOBALG.A.P. has already been Lidl`s standard of choice for fruit and vegetable sold in their European stores for many years. Now they published new requirements for their ornamental range sold in Germany and hereby introduce the GGN consumer label to be implemented by the end of 2019. All products of that range shall be made fully traceable to the production source which will be made visible with farm profiles on the GLOBALG.A.P. consumer portal www.ggn.org. Lidl`s requirements can be found here as a position paper in German language.

The GGN label shows that a flower or ornamental plant is sourced from a certified, responsibly managed farm, and helps the consumer to learn more about the respective origins.
All products with the GGN label come from farmers who are certified according to the rules of the GLOBALG.A.P. Standard. If a consumer buys such a flower or ornamental plant, the promise is ...

… that with the purchase the consumer will support not only large farms in industrialized countries, but also small farmers in developing countries and thus responsibly improve the living as well as working conditions of farmers and employees.

... that the consumer acts responsibly. He or she can convince him/herself of that at any time. Because the listed farmers provide contact information for inquiries, controlled processes, transparent traceability of products, as well as reliable complaint management.

... that all of this is inspected at least once a year by independent institutes.

... that it was grown in an environmentally friendly manner. Because responsible management, waste minimization, use of renewable energies, efficient water management as well as environmentally friendly use of fertilizers and plant protection products are an  essential part of daily practice for our farmers.

... that the employees on the farms have an employer who respects labor rights, ensures safe and hygienic working conditions, trains his employees sufficiently for their daily work, as well as for emergencies, and keeps the required tools, machinery and work equipment in good condition.

... that all service providers and suppliers also implement the requirements of the GLOBALG.A.P. Standard. Our goal is to promote certified responsible agriculture together with farmers, retailers and consumers around the globe. That is why we formulated the GLOBALG.A.P. Standard in such a way as to ensure that it makes the work of farmers better and safer. With the GGN label, farmers can show that they advocate the protection of our environment and the safety of their employees. By buying a GGN certified product, you can support them in this endeavor.
