The GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture Standard covers the four pillars established by the FAO Technical Guidelines on Aquaculture Certification - food safety, environment, workers, animal welfare - including all the production chain - hatchery, farm, feed, traceability after harvest. All resources needed to obtain safe farmed seafood shall be capable to be sustained and this is guided through the standard.

It is currently the only standard at farm level recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative - GFSI for food safety - farming of fish. In April 2018, the standard gained the Global Seafood Sustainability Initiative - GSSI recognition.
