JAPAN

A Farm Assurer training for livestock was conducted in Hokkaido, Japan’s top milk-producing region. Covering 52% of Japan’s total milk production, Hokkaido outputs 3.8 metric tons of raw milk a year. A Vietnamese livestock consultant was invited to provide expertise on dairy certification, as Vietnam is the only country in Asia with GLOBALG.A.P. certified milk producers.

Two new dairy producers became GLOBALG.A.P. certified, the first certifications for commercial production in Japan. Previously a GLOBALG.A.P. Dairy Standard certification was granted to the Faculty of Agriculture’s university farm at the University of Miyazaki, for research purposes only.

CENTRAL ASIA

GLOBALG.A.P. is strongly committed to investing a great deal of capacity building in collaboration with strong partners in the region. One such project is the Trade Facilitation in Central Asia project supported by GIZ, German Corporation for International Cooperation, which has been operating in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan since 2017. The objectives of the project are to improve competitiveness and easy access of horticultural products from Central Asia to international markets through development of GLOBALG.A.P.  services affordable for local producers and available across the region. As part of the project three GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR Stops were organized in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

One TOUR Stop in Bosnia was organized through EU ProLocal, the joint program of the European Union and the German Government for local self-government and economic development.

Capacity building and Farm Assurer workshops were organized in Tashkent in Uzbekistan, and Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan. A Quality Management System (QMS) and Internal Inspector Training (IIT) were also conducted in Bishkek.

Pre-audit farm assessments were successfully conducted for one farm and one producer group in Uzbekistan, one farm in Kazakhstan, one farm in Kyrgyzstan, one farm in Tajikistan. This was a great opportunity to work hand-in-hand with newly trained consultants and GLOBALG.A.P. experts to spread better awareness about standard certification.
