On October 4, 2019, the founding meeting of the GLOBALG.A.P. National Technical Working Group (NTWG) was held in Kiev. This body is responsible for the translation and adaptation of the GLOBALG.A.P. requirements. The work is based on the interests and needs of local stakeholders and serves as a link and first point of contact between GLOBALG.A.P. and the country.

Ukraine’s great potential

A new chapter in Ukraine’s agricultural history

"I believe that our today's meeting opens a new chapter in the history of agriculture in Ukraine," - says Kirk Reimer, Head of the USAID Agriculture and Rural Development Support Project, - "when the observance and use of high international standards of safety and quality really and fully become a daily practice for Ukrainian farmers."

Today, the NTWG in Ukraine includes 28 participants, among them manufacturers, experts, retail chains, consultants, representatives of the scientific community, laboratories, certification bodies, agribusiness and other stakeholders with experience in the field of food safety, ecology, impact on human and animal welfare. Edite Strazdina, Technical Key Account Manager at GLOBALG.A.P., took part in the founding meeting of the GLOBALG.A.P.  NTWG in Ukraine.

During the first constituent meeting, the Secretariat and the Chair of the NTWG were elected and the work plan of the NTWG for the first year was approved. In particular, the General Regulations of the GLOBALG.A.P. standard version 5.2. and the GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP) will be translated and adapted in the first place. The final versions of the documents will be posted on the GLOBALG.A.P. website www.globalgap.org and on the website of the Development Quality Сentre, the host organization of the GLOBALG.A.P. National Technical Working Group in Ukraine: : www.qdc.com.ua.

Responsibilities of National Technical Working Groups

In general, the responsibilities of the National Technical Working Group include a number of issues:

  • facilitation of implementation of the GLOBALG.A.P. standard in the local environment and harmonization of GLOBALG.A.P. requirements with the legislation of Ukraine
  • translation, interpretation and adaptation of the GLOBALG.A.P. guidelines to local conditions
  • information support for local manufacturers on updates and changes to the GLOBALG.A.P. standard
  • provision of feedback from local stakeholders and prepare proposals to GLOBALG.A.P. regarding the improvement of the standard on behalf of the Ukrainian professional environment.

Until the end of October 2019 NTWG is gathering proposals to finalize the action plan for the next year. The Working Group will meet once a quarter. The next meeting is scheduled for January 2020.
