The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives, not least our personal hygiene standards. But what about hygiene measures on business premises? How has the pandemic changed daily life on site for those who produce our food? We caught up with quality manager Ebru Bozkurt from GLOBALG.A.P. certified grower AKSUN TARIMSAL URUNLER in Turkey to find out.

The important thing is to act quickly. “At the start of the pandemic, we formed a crisis management team to provide global guidance on which preventive measures needed to be taken in order to avoid the presence of the virus on our premises, protect AKSUN employees and visitors, and minimize disruption of our operations,” says Ebru Bozkurt. “Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, our primary focus has been the health and safety of our people, their families, and our customers and their families.”

Some examples of concrete measures put in place to manage potential health and business risks within AKSUN’s international operations include the following: “We have restrictions on the number of visitor on site, we are prioritizing virtual communication methods over in-person meetings, and are enforcing staff and visitor temperature checks and the compulsory use of protective masks and gloves.” Hand sanitizer is provided throughout workplace areas, and the site is also cleaned and disinfected daily. The workplace canteen is operating at reduced capacity with disposable items.

Due to the global spread of the virus, it is also important to follow the latest guidelines and keep up to date with official announcements from national and local authorities, as well as the World Health Organization. As the situation progresses, it may be necessary to make changes or even implement further additional hygiene and prevention controls.

The COVID-19 pandemic seems far from over, but AKSUN TARIMSAL URUNLER remains vigilant and prepared for what is still to come. “We are providing all stakeholders with regular updates on our services to limit any disruption to supply chains and are glad to discuss and/or implement any additional extra safety measures advised by our customers."

It’s clear that big changes have been made in all supply chains around the world. Thankfully, the supply of fresh produce has not been halted, and it seems most business premises have been able to adapt quickly. We are impressed with all producers holding a GLOBALG.A.P certificate who have managed to make such rapid adjustments and remain vigilant.
