Hugo's Statement

I would like to offer GLOBALG.A.P. Members my continued efforts to permanently search for more practical, efficient and integrated methods for generating long term trust and innovation in the production market place and supply chain. We need to simplify and benchmark, avoid duplication and facilitate positive change. As I did in my previous term in the Board, I wish to drive the Sustainability Agenda, and help members use GLOBALG.A.P. as a positive reinforcement of their own branding.

Professional & Educational Background

Diploma in Farm Management and MSc Diploma in Business Management in Food and Agriculture Industries at the Royal Agricultural College, UK. Since, I have attended many specialization courses in the subjects that I manage.

I was brought up on a farm in Uruguay, and have worked as a farmer, crop consultant, management consultant, food safety, standards development and capacity building expert in the UK, Spain and Portugal. I worked in EurepGAP as Technical manager and Integrity Director 2002-2007.

From 2008 to 2012 I worked in Southern Africa on a regional EU funded Sanitary and Phytosanitary project working with governments of 15 countries, and since 2013 I have worked at Fyffes in Costa Rica and the region managing Food Safety, Compliance and Sustainability, with global responsibility within the company for these subjects. I also sat on the GlobalG.A.P. Board from 2015 to 2017, representing producers
