Citrusvil S.A. "Always looking forward to meet the highest standards in everything we do" .

Citrusvil S.A. is a company dedicated to the production, processing and marketing of lemon and its derivatives. It is located in the province of Tucumán, Argentina. It was established in the 1970’s as a primary citric producer. In the 1980’s it added value to its production chain through the incorporation of the packaging and marketing of fresh fruit to international markets. Shortly after, the takeoff caused by the citrus export made the company one of the pioneering companies in the province.
Good farming practices such as the systematization of farms, appropriate land management, pruning, irrigation, fertilization, phytosanitary treatments, and grass weed control, are carried out by qualified personnel in line with high security standards. These activities are performed with suitable machinery and equipment, which is a distinctive feature of the management and control of the land.
Citrusvil S.A. owns 16 productive facilities located at the piedmont of the province of Tucumán. All of them have been duly certified by GLOBALG.A.P. protocol for more than ten consecutive years, totaling 5220 hectares grown.
Annually, we hire 3800 employees to harvest the lemon fields. In this way, the company has proven to be one of the largest employment generators at regional and national levels. The workers receive training lectures on health and safety regulations in order to have skilled labor. By the end of the harvest period, the employees who worked in our farms become eligible professionals to return and do their best in the upcoming season.
As a company dedicated not only to primary production, we pay special attention to safety measures in compliance with international standards regarding quality and health of fruits throughout the process. Citrusvil S.A. demonstrates its commitment towards the improvement of quality, food safety, the environment, as well as health and safety of workers, through the following certification standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14000, HACCP, OHSAS, ONE KOSHER, SGF, BRC and GLOBALG.A.P. Due to the above mentioned reasons, Citrusvil, Don Vicente, Sara Lía, Rio Nío, San Valentín, and La Luz among other brands, are recognized worldwide.
We have an anaerobic treatment plant for liquid effluents to produce biogas. The gas is recovered and used in our boilers as a source of thermal energy. This treatment reduces fossil fuel consumption as well as the emission of greenhouse gases through the non-release of methane into the atmosphere.

Since December 2010, Citrusvil S.A. is the first and only citrus company in the world to have a project registered at the United Nations Executive Board. This organism verifies the contribution of the shares of the company to sustainable development in the region, the country and the world through climate change mitigation.

Social Responsibility:
Citrusvil S.A. Is the first company in Argentina to certify GLOBALG.A.P. GRASP. Within its framework of social responsibility where the commitment towards employees is a priority, the company’s goal for 2014 is the GLOBALG.A.P. GRASP Standard Certification. This is an annex to the GLOBALG.A.P. Standard that is voluntarily achieved and helps producers to establish a good system of social management on their farms, and offers buyers an additional warranty. It also helps to protect one of the most important resources of the company: its people.
To achieve the certification, specific issues related to health, safety and welfare of workers were discussed. Interviews and surveys were carried out to ensure the compliance of all the work staff. After arduous work, Citrusvil S.A. was able to show compliance with good social practices in their farms, industries and packaging. As a result, it became the first company in Argentina to reach the GLOBALG.A.P. GRASP Certificate.
Following this guideline on good social practices, Citrusvil S.A. is also the first citrus company in the country to offer portable chemical toilets to the lemon harvest employees, contributing to provide decent and hygienic working conditions.

Responsible water usage:
It is known that water is a scarce natural resource that must be carefully used to pursue sustainable production. Watershed handling is associated with integrated environmental management, spatial planning and regional development, and also all the actions aimed at improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of a watershed.
Due to flooding, erosion and production problems affecting local populations, Citrusvil S.A. developed the Field Systematization Project focusing on integrated watershed management; which took place in Don Vicente Farm, located in the Department of Burruyacu, in the province of Tucuman. This project is the first and the only one of its kind in Argentina and worldwide in the citrus industry.
Under runoff assessments, measurements, hydrologic calculations and soil studies, the execution of seven dams and a dike to control water flows was undertaken. With this implementation of dams and integrated watershed management, the company was able to:
 - Reduce the risk of erosion and soil loss.
 - Reduce degraded areas and increase vegetation coverage.
 - Improve and increase agricultural production.
 - Preserve biodiversity and environmental balance.
 - Increase the income and create better living conditions for the families inhabiting the watershed.
- Generate local labor.
Overcome the economic, social and environmental challenges posed by the area.
The Field Systematization focused on Comprehensive Watershed Management has proven to be a plan which allows the company to face the existing problems from the beginning and to provide economic, productive, social and environmental benefits by investing in social groups that ensure the maintenance of the project over time.
