Nurture Module

Following a decision by TESCO, the release of Nurture module v11.4 will be postponed until 1 April 2023 (instead of 1 February 2023). As a result, the v11.3 of Nurture module will continue to be applicable until 31 March 2023.

The new version features the addition of 20 new control points and compliance criteria related to the handling of “unfinished” Tesco products, i.e., products that are not ready for retail sale at the time of dispatch. The Nurture Module scheme rules for v11.2 are unchanged and will remain valid. There will be no transition period between v11.3 and v11.4 for fruit and vegetables during which both versions would be valid at the same time.

All certification bodies (CBs) and auditors/inspectors currently approved for Nurture Module v11.3 will be authorized to conduct audits against v11.4. The updated v11.4 may only be combined with the Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) standard v5.2 or IFA v5.4-1-GFS. It cannot be combined with IFA v6.

The Nurture Module v11.2 quality management system checklist and the checklist for flowers and ornamentals in Audit Online Hub (AOH) will remain unaffected and may continue to be used.

About the Nurture Module

The Tesco Nurture Programme became a GLOBALG.A.P. add-on module that was applicable to the audit process for IFA v5 for crops in January 2017. Through this process of combining audits, GLOBALG.A.P. is helping to reduce duplication and increase flexibility for suppliers when choosing how they want their sites to be assessed.

More information on the evolution of the Nurture Module (the transition process and timelines) is available as an annex to the Nurture Module scheme rules, as well as from the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat, your Tesco technical manager, UK primary supplier, direct supplier, your Nurture CB, or
www.tescosuppliernetwork.com.

How it works

Since October 2017, Tesco has specified strict performance criteria for CBs that are measured against their key performance indicator (KPI) score in the GLOBALG.A.P. CB database. In 2021, Tesco revised the minimum criteria for new and currently approved CBs for the Nurture Module:

  • Overall KPI score above 3.90
  • No subscore below 3.00
  • No active yellow cards
  • Must have undergone a CB office and producer integrity assessment through the GLOBALG.A.P. integrity program

Approved CBs that fail to meet the above criteria will be placed under surveillance by the Tesco Governance Committee and given a deadline by which to improve. If the CB fails to significantly improve its performance, the Tesco Governance Committee may sanction the CB and even reconsider its participation in the Nurture Module.
