Brussels/Voelklingen. As of April 12, 2018, FRESH Voelklingen GmbH has incorporated all of its three marine species into GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture certification: European Seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata), and Yellowtail Kingfish/Hiramasa Kingfish (Seriola lalandi). FRESH is currently the only GLOBALG.A.P. certified closed recirculation marine sea fish farm in the world.

FRESH low-impact urban sea fish farming has turned the vision of sustainably produced premium sea fish independent of the sea, into commercial reality. The three marine species that have recently been GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture certified are European Seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata), and Yellowtail Kingfish /Hiramasa Kingfish (Seriola lalandi). The closed water cycle is particularly resource-friendly and largely eliminates the need for fresh water. The water renewal rate due to operational losses and evaporation is below 1% of the system volume per day. FRESH low-impact urban sea fish farming helps protect the oceans by reducing the carbon footprint and offering consumers a safer and more sustainable seafood choice. The application of cutting-edge data mining techniques enables FRESH to make predictions based on scientific models verified by operational data. The energy used originates from renewable sources. The animal welfare components of the GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture standard are well covered, include the most up-to-date stunning method. FRESH low impact urban sea fish farming offers advantages with great potential in other areas around the world.

GLOBALG.A.P. congratulates FRESH as part of the solution to the world’s need for producing food with the lowest impact possible while maintaining the high quality of

Juergen PAULY, Category Manager Fresh Fish/Delicatessen for the German Retail Chain Globus SB:

“GLOBUS is a family-owned, 190-year-old retail company with 46 outlets in Germany as well as stores in the Czech Republic and Russia. The company is based close to FRESH. Our fish counters in every store have been GLOBALG.A.P. certified since 2017. Our customers prefer the products from seawater aquaculture in Germany more and more because of the superior freshness, taste, texture, and short distance from farm to counter. We are happy to guarantee this now together with our partner FRESH to our customers. Chain of custody is completed by our logistic partner Havekost, who is also GLOBALG.A.P. certified. With the GGN at the counters, we are now able to show all important aspects of environmental and fish-friendly farming to our customers in a very transparent manner.

"We are delighted to be the world’s only closed recirculation sea fish farm certified by GLOBALG.A.P. providing a portfolio of premium marine fish raised independently of the sea. In fact, FRESH is now the only GLOBALG.A.P. certified supplier of Hiramasa Kingfish (Seriola lalandi) worldwide. This impressively confirms that fresh and low-impact seafood is no longer a distant vision, but an everyday good and safe choice for responsible consumers of fresh fish around the world”, says Peter Zeller, CEO of Swiss-based FRESH Corporation.
