The GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer training took place between 4 and 7 September 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It was organized by the Vietnam High Quality Goods Standard Integration Program for livestock and husbandry sectors. 25 Vietnamese experts from livestock and crop production attended the training.

The livestock training course was conducted by Dr. Roland Aumüller, GLOBALG.A.P. senior expert, specialist veterinary surgeon and standards manager for livestock and feed. The crops training was conducted by Isidor Vu, GLOBALG.A.P. Trainer and Farm Assurer from South Korea.

After a three-day in-house training, the members of the animal husbandry group had the opportunity to apply their knowledge about the poultry standard on a field trip to a meat chicken farm in the Mekong Delta. The farm of Khanh Son Joint Stock Company Can Gio covers a total area of 32 hectares and houses up to 10,000 chickens of a local slow-growing breed.

Dr Aumüller commented that "if Vietnamese livestock producers want to achieve GLOBALG.A.P. Certification in the future, they have to provide written evidence on what they do, how they do it, and how they record and assure that they follow the documentation. This is in order to comply with the GLOBALG.A.P. standard requirements". He added that the setting up of a proper documentation system is frequently the major challenge on the way to achieving certification. Consequently, farm assurers/consultants may provide guidance and support to set up the documentation system in accordance with the control points of the standard.

Dr Aumüller addressed three issues that are faced in particular by livestock farms: the compliance with food safety requirements, the provision of a record-keeping system to safeguard traceability, and ultimately the implementation of animal welfare and sustainability.

All participants of the livestock Farm Assurer training passed the exam successfully and are qualified to apply for becoming a GLOBALG.A.P. approved Farm Assurer.
