More than 200,000 producers worldwide use international GLOBALG.A.P. certification to certify the production of  food in a manner that supports safe and sustainable practices. In spring of this year, Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre (LACC) joined the international certification system. In March they organized a very successful GLOBALG.A.P. Tour Stop in Latvia. In addition GLOBALG.A.P. Technical Expert Edite Strazdina held a private Farm Assurer Workshop for LACC. She trained 15 LACC employees to become licensed Farm Assurers. Latvia's leading consulting company for rural development is currently receiving first requests from farmers who wish to acquire GLOBALG.A.P. certification.

Advantages for Latvia

LACC Chairman Mārtiņš Cimermanis explains: "We want to encourage farmers in Latvia to adopt the practice of a safe and sustainable food system in order to make Latvia a better place to live for our children and ourselves. This certificate will help to satisfy consumers’ desire to know the origin of the raw materials used in food, to be certain that it is produced with the care and responsibility required, and to ensure the traceability of food at all stages of its lifecycle."

The aim of the LACC is to assemble a team of LACC specialists to help local producers prepare for entry into the international quality system. At the same time, the team's mission is to attract new candidates for certification in order to promote local production with Good Agricultural Practices.
