“It is useful for all people who want to improve their way of farming and those who want to help producers for the same purpose."

New approach incorporates modern adult learning principles

The training materials for prospective Fruit & Vegetables Farm Assurers have received a major overhaul, and the first workshops have already been conducted using the new and improved materials. The new approach incorporates modern adult learning principles and provides more time for the practical application of the theoretical groundwork. The new teaching materials were developed in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as part of the Africa Food Safety Advisory Project and partnership with the Japanese government.

A pilot course based on the new materials was conducted in Kenya in October 2018 to enable further refinement.

Practical exercise for the classroom

In addition to revising the training materials, GLOBALG.A.P. has developed a practical exercise for the classroom. The purpose is to provide a controlled setting in which participants can observe and inspect multi-media examples against the GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance Control Points and Compliance Criteria (CPCC) checklist and practice consulting as a Farm Assurer would with a producer.
Very good feedback from workshop participants

We have already started to use the new format of the GLOBALG.A.P. Capacity Building & Farm Assurer Workshop for Fruit & Vegetables for our March workshops in Kenya, South Africa, and Cologne with very good feedback from the workshop participants. Attendees called it a good experience that “gives you a much more in-depth understanding of GLOBALG.A.P. principles and brought out new points,” and generally deemed it to be very helpful – some even said it was more instructive than actual on-farm experience.

If you are interested to learn more about GLOBALG.A.P. and its standard, or you want to attend one of our trainings to become a Farm Assurer, then have a look at the GLOBALG.A.P. Academy and see if we offer a workshop near you: www.globalgap.org/gg-academy/
