GLOBALG.A.P. already incorporates a number of practices in line with the SDGs. On 26 September, the GLOBALG.A.P. Board decided to formally visualize its current alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. Contributing to the SDGs is a collaborative effort, which is also part of GLOBALG.A.P.’s principles, and working towards GLOBALG.A.P. Certification is already an important milestone towards achieving the SDGs.

SDG-based Market Incentives for Farmers

"By linking small, medium and large- scale farms to local and global corporate food buyers, we help farmers utilize globally recognized certificates to access new markets. Once certified, market incentives encourage farmers to adopt safe and sustainable farming practices and measure their contribution toward the SDGs. An annual independent check through GLOBALG.A.P.’s global certification and integrity program enables third-party assured data to enter a reporting system for farm contributions to SDGs. We offer this added authentication through an extensive infrastructure involving 140 independent certification bodies featuring international ISO-based accreditation from more than 34 countries," says GLOBALG.A.P. GLOBALG.A.P. is in the process of employing new information technologies to further advance the gathering, processing and reporting of farm-level information beyond the GLOBALG.A.P. baseline, thus enabling assurance of SDG compliance levels in the supply chains of food brands. GLOBALG.A.P. facilitates the creation of a transparent market with the potential to accelerate the transformation of the global food sector towards the 2030 goals.
