Committee composition and tasks
Made up of six GLOBALG.A.P. Community Members from the producer/supplier category and six GLOBALG.A.P. Community Members from the retail/food service category, the GRASP Technical Committee (GRASP TC) determines the sector-related technical interpretation of the GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP) and revises the workers’ health, safety, and welfare content in the Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) standard. The committee also reviews relevant communication and advises the GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board on strategic and technical development when asked.
The GRASP TC will also be assisting in the development of a new standard for workers’ well-being; the first-ever agriculture industry standard that will aim to provide assurance on social, ethical, and human rights principles related to labor in the value chain. This will provide an alternative to the GRASP add-on and cater to the diverse needs of the market.
About the new workers’ well-being standard
Extensive analysis has revealed a critical need to address stakeholders in the agricultural supply chain who are currently not covered by existing GLOBALG.A.P. solutions. This target group includes subcontractors providing agricultural labor, services, and materials, as well as supply chain participants outside the existing scope of GLOBALG.A.P. certification, for example packing units or producers with unique characteristics that GLOBALG.A.P. certification does not yet cover.
The new standard for workers’ well-being will also address new topics, expanding the coverage of social responsibility requirements and marking a significant enhancement of social assurance for the relevant target group.
Although the standard will be designed to be completely independent from IFA and GRASP, a certain level of compliance with these solutions (as well as other relevant industry standards) will be considered to prevent audit duplication and streamline the audit process.
The development of the new standard is underway and it will be launched in 2025.
