Derk's Statement

GLOBALG.A.P. has shown to be a strong and practical scheme recognized around the globe by producers and retailers. To solidify this position we need to make sure the standard is as simple as can be while keeping our integrity at its unique high level. We can do so by developing our standards with the active involvement of our members and welcoming the views of other stakeholders in the food chain.
Innovations has driven agriculture in the past and it will even more so in the time ahead. Big data collection and analysis will play a much more important role in the future. The ability to smartly incorporate and implement innovations that will improve the efficiency and safety of production will strengthen GLOBALG.A.P. and its members and set it apart from other standards to stay ahead.
Small holders play an important role in their local communities by providing plentiful safe food and an income which both are necessary for a sustainable chance to grow. GLOBALG.A.P. has the unique position to further secure the position of small growers by empowering them to become major food producers in the future.
I want to work passionately to make GLOBALG.A.P. even stronger and better.

Professional & Educational Background

I am veterinarian specialized in the field of food safety (diplomat of the ECVPH) with a passionate love for all kinds of food. I have developed my career on the basis of understanding the importance of strong food chains that link together by meaningful quality schemes. I have been working for over 12 years now in Quality Assurance with a focus on the chain from the producers all the way to the end consumer. Over the years I have developed a strong sense of the wishes of consumers, the requirements of retailers and the possibilities of producers to say that I am able to design and build quality schemes that are still being used today both within and outside GLOBALG.A.P.
