GLOBALG.A.P. is expanding its scope of certification to the field of crops for processing. In future, the new GLOBALG.A.P. Crops for Processing Standard (CfP) will make it possible to produce juice, preserves, and other processed foods from uniformly monitored and sustainably cultivated raw materials.

Built on GLOBALG.A.P.’s recently updated foundation of food safety certification as part of good agricultural practices for producers of fresh fruit and vegetables, aquaculture, and animal production, the new CfP Standard opens up GLOBALG.A.P. Certification to agricultural businesses that serve the processing industry. This is achieved through a partnership with the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform.

“We’ve simply combined the requirements of the world’s two leading food safety and sustainability programs for agricultural enterprises and made these available to the farming sector as a new, flexible and risk-related instrument,” explained Kristian Moeller, CEO of GLOBALG.A.P. “Through this cooperation we want to boost harmonization and make a contribution to greater sustainability and food safety.”

The proposed GLOBALG.A.P. Crops for Processing Standard (CfP Standard) is available for public consultation until 21 October 2015, with the aim of final approval by the committees at the end of 2015. The CfP Standard contains food safety requirements from the GLOBALG.A.P. Fruit and Vegetables Standard, and includes as a central concern aspects of ecological sustainability from SAI Platform’s Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA). This combined standard is designed to meet the Food and Agriculture Business Principles of the Global Development Goals of the United Nations.

Agricultural businesses around the world stand to benefit from a single and practical instrument that is being accepted by an increasing number of global brands and retailers.

The GLOBALG.A.P. Crops for Processing Standard (CfP) was presented on 13 October 2015 at the Anuga trade fair in Cologne.
