GLOBALG.A.P. organized a special event on 26 June 2013 at this year’s Vietfish, which took place from 25-27 June, entitled “ GLOBALG.A.P. A Global Solution in Collaboration with Vietnam Producers”. Speakers Valeska Weyman, GLOBALG.A.P. Standard Management Aquaculture, and Le Tran Truong Thuy showcased the benefits of the GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture Standard to 45 participants in both English and Vietnamese.

"With half a million tons of GLOBALG.A.P. certified farmed fish, Vietnam proudly represents one of the top fish producing countries adhering to the preferred farm assurance system on the market”, Valeska Weymann, GLOBALG.A.P. Standard Management Aquaculture.

Species currently certified in Vietnam are Pangasius Tra (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus), Pangasius Basa (Pangasius bocourti), Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), Barramundi (Lates calcarifer) and Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). With 24 GLOBALG.A.P. certified compound feed mills in Vietnam, aquaculture producers can cover their entire production chain and comply with the GLOBALG.A.P. certification system requirements.

GLOBALG.A.P. also held a workshop entitled Aquaculture Certification in Asia: Status, Challenges, Opportunities & Way Forward at the ASEM Aquaculture Platform on 26 June.

On 28 June, the closure workshop of the pangasius supply chain took place. Coordinated by the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ), one of the positive outcomes of this two-and-a-half-year project for small-scale producers is the evaluation of a G.A.P. analysis to implement GLOBALG.A.P. Group Certification.
