GLOBALG.A.P. is a sponsor of the Biofruit Congress taking place from 4–6 October at Fruit Attraction in Madrid, Spain. The fifth edition of the international congress will explore topics such as the demand for organic produce, sustainability, the future of organic fruit and vegetable markets, as well as other growing “value chains”.

GLOBALG.A.P. Senior Technical Expert René Capote will be participating in the congress and speaking about the GLOBALG.A.P. BioDiversity add-on as part of the sustainability panel on 4 October at 4:10 p.m.

The discussions will see international organizations present their solutions for becoming more “ climate friendly” while remaining cost sustainable. This will include GLOBALG.A.P.’s René Capote on how the BioDiversity add-on is helping to improve the sustainability of the supply chain, crop expert Alejandro Pascual from Syngenta on the latest advances in breeding to help reduce the per-kilo impact of marketed crops, and Ecovalia general secretary Diego Granado Cumbres on the accurate comparison analysis of climate impact by crop type.

Pierre Escodo, editor of Eurofresh and Biofruit coordinator, commented, “The managers and experts in our sector are looking for solutions for the future in order to strengthen their strategy with an organic approach and adopt more efficient solutions regarding sustainability, as we have never faced such serious challenges before. GLOBALG.A.P. is contributing to this with a solution to promote biodiversity in conventional farming.”

Other panels scheduled at the Biofruit Congress include:

  • Market panel – 4 October, 3–5 p.m. at Fruit Forum (hall 6)

European retail buyers and international institutions will discuss the best strategies for fueling the organic market phenomenon in Europe and around the globe. With the impacts of COVID-19 and inflated costs, the challenge is how to better respond to growing consumer demand beyond just organics in order to foster more engagement with the environment.

  • Innovation panel – 6 October, 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m. at Foro Innova (hall 5)

For the first time, Biofruit Congress has organized a second session focusing on innovation and postharvest.
