Farm Management Software

Farm management software (FMS) supports the impact-driven approach to sustainability in GLOBALG.A.P. smart solutions by linking global farm data to the GLOBALG.A.P. system.

Analyzing environmental impact from farm data

What do we mean by "Impact-Driven Approach"?

The world is increasingly data-driven, and the farming sector is no different. At an individual level, farm data can be used to demonstrate compliance with sustainability requirements and support continuous improvement goals. But there are also broader conclusions to be drawn from this data. The “impact-driven approach” is all about harnessing the power of farm data to draw insights on the impact of farm assurance certification on the farming sector and examine ways to strengthen sustainability criteria in future standards.

Farm management software and the impact-driven approach

For producers to implement the Impact-Driven Approach to Sustainability (IDA) add-on, they must use a compatible farm management software (FMS) to send relevant data points to the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems each month. As the data pool grows over time, insights can be gathered for interpreting performance, both for individual growers and for the sector as a whole.

The flow of information between farms and the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems is as follows:

  1. Producer registers input consumption metrics into their chosen FMS.

  2. The FMS shares relevant data points to GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems via an API.

  3. GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems store and process the data, which is anonymized and aggregated in peer comparison reports. GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems also analyze the data to better understand producer realities and identify opportunities to streamline and improve GLOBALG.A.P. solutions.

  4. GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems return the processed data to the FMS.

  5. The FMS uses data to compile comparison reports and display statistics for individual producers.

  6. Certification bodies (CBs) conduct an IDA audit to check the reliability of data provided via the FMS. Compliant producers receive a letter of conformance which may be relevant for demonstrating regulatory or supply chain requirements on sustainability.

Your role as a software provider

Until recently, data on farm input consumption has not been harnessed effectively. More and more producers are now adopting smart systems to help them manage and optimize farm operations.

As a GLOBALG.A.P. compatible FMS provider, your role is to bridge the gap between farm-level data and the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems. Compatibility between your software and the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems is achieved via an API.

Why connect with the GLOBALG.A.P. system?

With more than 200,000 producers under GLOBALG.A.P. certification in over 130 countries, GLOBALG.A.P. is well placed to encourage the collection of farm data and offer a growing customer base for your software.
