Wikifarmer becomes a GLOBALG.A.P. Community Member

Welcoming Wikifarmer, the global platform known as the "Wikipedia of Farming," to the GLOBALG.A.P. community! This collaboration brings together two players in global capacity building in the field of good agricultural practices, fostering knowledge sharing, and empowering farmers worldwide.

About WikiFarmer

Farmers are the guardians of global food security, but ensuring global food security has become increasingly challenging due to the need to meet market demands for more nutritious and sustainable food amidst the pressures of climate change. It is more important than ever to understand and adopt responsible farming practices, with knowledge being central to this effort.

Founded in 2017, Wikifarmer is a global platform with a mission to empower farmers through education and market access. They offer a free, open library (Wikifarmer Library) with over 15,000 original articles in 17 languages, covering everything from the latest scientific advancements to practical farming manuals. This user-generated library also features contributions from over 240 experts.

Furthermore, farmers can upgrade their skills with the Wikifarmer Academy, which provides online courses with certificates for a comprehensive learning experience. Finally, Wikifarmer MarketPlace connects farmers directly with local and global agricultural markets, ensuring fair prices for their produce.

Shared vision for a more sustainable future

Joining as a GLOBALG.A.P. Community Member in 2024, Wikifarmer expands their network of over 50 partner organizations dedicated to supporting sustainable agriculture. This collaboration will see Wikifarmer incorporate requirements from GLOBALG.A.P. standards into their academy trainings, further equipping farmers with the knowledge to implement these practices.

Elmé Managing Director of GLOBALG.A.P. c/o FoodPLUS stated, “The Wikifarmer library, available in so many languages, is an incredible resource for farmers across the globe, and we’re happy to have Wikifarmer as part of our global community. Together we can make a bigger and better impact on the global adoption of safer and more responsible farming practices, empowering farmers, benefiting consumers, and protecting the environment.”

Peter Sagos, the co-founder and Chief Content Officer of Wikifarmer, commented, "The adoption of best agricultural practices by farmers globally is the key to transforming the sector, making it more efficient and sustainable. The collaboration with GLOBALG.A.P. is one more way we prove our devotion to this purpose. Together, we will facilitate the training of the farmers globally regarding the system and its principles, reinforcing the competitiveness of our supplies in the Wikifarmer Market Place.”
