GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR 2017

On 3 August 2017, the GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR stopped to promote Good Agricultural Practices in Uruguay. The TOUR Stop was organized by Trazur and took place at the Chamber of Commerce and Export of Agriproducts in Montevideo.

The 44 participants of the two-day event included employees from producer and supplier companies, veterinarians, students of agriculture and veterinary medicine, and others from various different backgrounds.

The conference began with a short welcome speech by Dr. Hugo Estavillo, organizer and Member of the Organizational Committee at Trazur, Mr. Gonzalo Fernández and representatives of GLOBALG.A.P. Dr. Diego Salgado, GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer Manager and Trainer, then provided a detailed presentation about the GLOBALG.A.P. Livestock Standard and its implementation. This was followed by a presentation from Maria Florencia, Quality and Food Safety & Compliance Corporate Manager at Arcos Dorados, about the organization’s expectations from suppliers around the world, including animal welfare programs.

After a short break, Christiane Mokross from GLOBALG.A.P. informed the audience about the GLOBALG.A.P. Academy, the GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer Program and its benefits. Andrea Pastore, Technical Officer at URUD’OR, then held a presentation about the benefits of GLOBALG.A.P. Certification. Heidi Gremminger, Senior Expert at GLOBALG.A.P., continued the TOUR Stop with an in-depth presentation about the GLOBALG.A.P. Crops and Aquaculture Standard.

After the lunch break, Dr. Hugo Estavillo, continued the conference with his presentation about ISO/TS 34700 – Animal Welfare Management. The last presentation of the day was held by Dr. Luis Castro, veterinarian from DMV, about Good Practices in animal transportation. The first day of the event was then rounded off by an interesting plenary discussion and lively Q&A session.

On the second day of the GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR Stop the participants were given insights into the operations of a milk parlor and calf rearing on a farm visit. Furthermore, they also received information on Good Agricultural Practices in livestock farming as well as traceability in meat and milk farms followed by on-site demonstrations.
