Representing the interests of CB stakeholders

What is the Certification Body Committee?

The majority of the technical feedback received by the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat comes from the more than 100,000 yearly audits performed by hundreds of certification body (CB) auditors globally. The Certification Body Committee was established to collate this feedback and discuss implementation issues, as well as coordinate CB activities within the GLOBALG.A.P. certification system.

How does it work?

The Certification Body Committee:

  • Is composed of experts representing GLOBALG.A.P. approved CBs

  • Represents the interests of CB stakeholders in the GLOBALG.A.P. certification system

  • Facilitates information flow, including the latest updates affecting the certification process

  • Discusses implementation issues and provides feedback on the audit process

  • Proposes changes that are reviewed and approved by the relevant technical committees

All scheme managers of GLOBALG.A.P. approved CBs that are also GLOBALG.A.P. Community Members from the associate category are invited to the meetings.

In 2012, a South American regional subgroup was established to represent local sector interests. It reports regularly to the central Certification Body Committee.

Maintaining trust in the GLOBALG.A.P. certification system

What is the Integrity Surveillance Committee?

The GLOBALG.A.P. Integrity Program ensures that stakeholders have confidence in the robust nature and continuous improvement of our certification system. As an independent and impartial body, the Integrity Surveillance Committee makes decisions on performance-related certification body (CB) sanctions and corrective measures following integrity assessments conducted by the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat.

How does it work?

The Integrity Surveillance Committee:

  • Is composed of industry experts

  • Represents an independent jury of non-CB stakeholders in the assessment of cases of inadequate CB performance

  • Reviews anonymized reports of integrity assessments conducted by the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat

  • Evaluates the performance of GLOBALG.A.P. approved CBs and responds to appeals

  • Proposes sanctions for the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat to enforce

Who can join the committee?

The Integrity Surveillance Committee has five members that meet at least three times per year. They are appointed by the GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board and do not serve specific terms.

Core committee members represent GLOBALG.A.P. Community Members from the producer/supplier and retail/food service categories. The chairperson does not need to be a community member and is independent from the retail/food service sector.

Supporting harmonization across the sector

What are benchmarking committees?

A benchmarking committee is formed for each individual benchmarking application process. Composed of independent experts with representation from across the value chain, the committee oversees the various application stages from documentation to on-site audits and is responsible for recommending the final recognition of a benchmarked scheme or checklist.

How does it work?

A benchmarking committee:

  • Is composed of experts from the producer/supplier and retail/food service sectors

  • Represents independent oversight of the GLOBALG.A.P. benchmarking process

  • Is formed for every benchmarking application received by the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat

  • Reviews documents and on-site assessment reports and recommends the recognition or rejection of the applicant

  • Reviews any changes to the applicant’s scheme/checklist required during the process

Who can join the committee?

Benchmarking committees have three members that meet at least once during a benchmarking application process.

Two members represent GLOBALG.A.P. Community Members from the producer/supplier and retail/food service categories, with another member invited by the applicant certification scheme/checklist owner.

The committee remains in place for the duration of a benchmarking process, with different members assembled for each individual application.
