About the project

Country: China

Period: 2012-2014

Project partner: DEG - Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH

Objective: This project aimed to increase the capacities of local professionals and students through theoretical and practical on-farm training which would qualify them to provide services in responsible farming practices and especially GLOBALG.A.P.

Approach: The GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat developed and implemented a program that agricultural universities and technical schools could use in their curricula to set a first milestone for students in their professional careers as on-farm consultants, auditors, or inspectors. The program trial took place at Yunnan Agricultural University.

SDGs addressed: #8 Decent work and economic growth

Outcome: Both professionals and teachers were trained in Farm Assurer* workshops. Selected participants – along with local Farm Assurers – conducted practical on-farm training in responsible farming practices for 30 students.  The program included lectures from industry professionals as well as 10 comprehensive on-farm assessment training modules covering different aspects of the GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) standard, such as soil management and fertilization, integrated pest management, and food hygiene training. The university expressed intent to continue the program as well.

*The GLOBALG.A.P. Farm Assurer program was succeeded by the Registered Trainer program in 2022.
