About Fertiberia

Headquartered in Madrid, Spain, Fertiberia is a European frontrunner in sustainable specialty crop nutrition and decarbonization solutions for the agricultural sector.
Founded in 1995 and now made up of 13 leading companies across Europe, the organization has established itself as a fixed point of reference for agriculture and industry in the Iberian Peninsula and Europe over the last two and a half decades.

Leader in green hydrogen and low-carbon ammonia

Fertiberia is determined to become an agent of positive change by achieving the complete decarbonization of its production processes by 2035. The group aims to drive the development of green hydrogen and low carbon ammonia as new fossil-free energy vectors, facilitating the decarbonization of the food supply chain not only via its own low-carbon crop nutrition solutions, but by becoming a frontrunner in the production of green ammonia and green hydrogen – crucial elements in decarbonizing agriculture and other sectors such as energy, industry, and transport.

Fertiberia started producing low-carbon ammonia on an industrial scale at its Puertollano plant in May 2022. With six projects in development in Europe, it aims to produce up to 2.5 million tons of clean ammonia per year.

Low-carbon crop nutrition and biotechnology

Fertiberia is committed to low-carbon fertilization by replacing natural gas with renewable energy sources. Its Impact Zero line, the world’s first crop nutrition solutions made with low-carbon ammonia, marks a significant step towards sustainable agriculture. Several leading companies such as Marks & Spencer, Pepsico, Vivescia, Grupo Gallo, Primaflor, and Heineken Spain have already switched to Impact Zero as part of their own efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of their production.

In addition, Fertiberia is also committed to biotechnology that preserves soil health. That is why the organization has launched NSAFE, a global pioneering technology that will enable a large part of the company’s fertilizer range to increase its capacity to protect soil biodiversity while improving crop yields. It is the first microbiological development on the market with a nitrification-inhibiting effect. This technology allows fertilizers to enrich the soil through their microbial nature, offering a more efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional chemically synthesized inhibitors.

Strengthening global partnerships for more sustainable agriculture

As part of its dedication to sustainability, Fertiberia has joined the GLOBALG.A.P. Community as an associate member.

“At Fertiberia, we have been working for years to guarantee responsible and safe production because we truly believe that building a better world concerns all of us – citizens as a whole, but also companies and institutions,” says Javier Goñi, CEO of Grupo Fertiberia.
“For this reason, we have joined the GLOBALG.A.P. Community, allowing us to be part of an initiative with a dedicated capacity-building program that equips producers around the world with practical knowledge about responsible farming practices, enabling them to achieve certification, meet evolving market requirements, and contribute to international sustainability goals. That represents progress towards more efficient and sustainable production to meet the challenge of guaranteeing food for a constantly growing world population.”
