Exploring Fish International 2024

In 2024, Fish International and its partner event Gastro Ivent attracted over 14,000 visitors from the fish industry, including fish wholesalers, food retailers, and the catering trade. With 320 exhibitors from 27 nations, the fair provided a lively platform to exchange on the latest fish-related topics, trends, and insights.

“As always, the Fish International is a very nice show: small, but with quality talks with different stakeholders, whether retailer, producer, certification body, or processor/license holder,” says Remko Oosterveld, GLOBALG.A.P. and GGN label representative for Aquaculture.
“All the big names in Germany are there, and with Germany as a major market for the GGN label, this is a must on our bi-annual agenda.”

Showcasing GGN labeled products

This year the spotlight was on GGN labeled aquaculture products displayed at the GLOBALG.A.P. and GGN label booth, prompting smiles from brand owners and license holders who enjoyed seeing their offerings displayed so prominently. The display highlighted the growing number of products featuring the GGN label that can now be found in stores in Europe and further afield.

Building connections and nurturing relationships

Throughout the event, GLOBALG.A.P. and GGN label representatives engaged in constructive dialogue with prominent German retailers. Meetings with license holders and brands including Deutsche See, Fishark, Contimax, Costa Meeresfrüchte, and Tinema also underscored collaborative efforts towards advancing responsible aquaculture practices and protecting product integrity.

Existing partnerships with producers such as Leroy, MOWI, Kilic, Philosofish, Cromaris, Hätäla, Heiploeg, Kagerer, Urker Zalmhuys, Hiddenfjord, and AquaChile were likewise nurtured, with conversations covering a broad range of topics such as feed, ecological responsibility, supply chain transparency, and worker’s health and safety. Furthermore, many new connections were established, enriching our network of stakeholders committed to driving positive change in the aquaculture industry.

Welcoming Stolt Sea Farm

A notable highlight was the addition of Stolt Sea Farm as a new GLOBALG.A.P. Community Member. Renowned for their innovative approach to farming sole and turbot across multiple countries, including Spain, Portugal, France, Norway, and Iceland, Stolt Sea Farm’s partnership signifies a step forward in promoting responsible aquaculture practices globally.

As Fish International 2024 drew to a close, our representatives reflected on the fruitful interactions, meaningful collaborations, and promising prospects that emerged from the trade fair. With a renewed commitment to promoting responsible aquaculture practices and facilitating industry-wide dialogue, we now look forward to Seafood Expo Global – the next big event in the calendar for the seafood sector.
