Farm Management Software
Farm management software (FMS) supports the impact-driven approach to sustainability in GLOBALG.A.P. smart solutions by linking global farm data to the GLOBALG.A.P. system.
Analyzing environmental impact from farm data
What do we mean by "Impact-Driven Approach"?
The world is increasingly data-driven, and the farming sector is no different. At an individual level, farm data can be used to demonstrate compliance with sustainability requirements and support continuous improvement goals. But there are also broader conclusions to be drawn from this data. The “impact-driven approach” is all about harnessing the power of farm data to draw insights on the impact of farm assurance certification on the farming sector and examine ways to strengthen sustainability criteria in future standards.

Farm management software and the impact-driven approach
For producers to implement the Impact-Driven Approach to Sustainability (IDA) add-on, they must use a compatible farm management software (FMS) to send relevant data points to the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems each month. As the data pool grows over time, insights can be gathered for interpreting performance, both for individual growers and for the sector as a whole.
The flow of information between farms and the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems is as follows:
Producer registers input consumption metrics into their chosen FMS.
The FMS shares relevant data points to GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems via an API.
GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems store and process the data, which is anonymized and aggregated in peer comparison reports. GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems also analyze the data to better understand producer realities and identify opportunities to streamline and improve GLOBALG.A.P. solutions.
GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems return the processed data to the FMS.
The FMS uses data to compile comparison reports and display statistics for individual producers.
Certification bodies (CBs) conduct an IDA audit to check the reliability of data provided via the FMS. Compliant producers receive a letter of conformance which may be relevant for demonstrating regulatory or supply chain requirements on sustainability.

Connect to the GLOBALG.A.P. system and help promote sustainable farming
Become an approved partner
Reaching producers digitally via smart IT solutions, such as farm management software (FMS), has a huge potential impact on agricultural supply chains worldwide. With more and more producers looking to adopt an FMS and benefit from valuable insights, there are many advantages to connecting your software to the GLOBALG.A.P. system.

Your role as a software provider
Until recently, data on farm input consumption has not been harnessed effectively. More and more producers are now adopting smart systems to help them manage and optimize farm operations.
As a GLOBALG.A.P. compatible FMS provider, your role is to bridge the gap between farm-level data and the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems. Compatibility between your software and the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems is achieved via an API.
Why connect with the GLOBALG.A.P. system?
With more than 200,000 producers under GLOBALG.A.P. certification in over 130 countries, GLOBALG.A.P. is well placed to encourage the collection of farm data and offer a growing customer base for your software.

FAQ
Farm management software (FMS) collects farm input consumption data such as:
Kg of active ingredient of PPP/ha/month (in relation to crop)
List of active ingredients of PPP used (in relation to crop)
Kg of N (in organic and inorganic fertilizers) used/ha/month (in relation to crop)
Kg of P (in organic and inorganic fertilizers) used/ha/month (in relation to crop)
Amount of water abstracted from water sources/month
Total amount of water used at the farm/month (Proxy: total amount of water used in irrigation)
Percentage (%) of total water used (or irrigation water) that is abstracted from external sources/farm/month
Total amount of energy in KwH used at the farm/month
List of energy sources and amounts per source
Percentage (%) distribution of renewable and non-renewable sources in total energy used
The farm management software then returns the processed data – such as personalized trend graphs, anonymized peer comparison reports, etc., – from the GLOBALG.A.P. IT systems to the producer.
The IDA add-on is a system that supports producers in collecting their farm-level environmental data and transforming it into information that can guide optimization efforts, track progress, and demonstrate sustainability credentials. An annual IDA audit according to the add-on checklist confirms that the producer is submitting relevant and accurate information via the farm management software so that the IDA system can function reliably.

Collecting your input consumption data (via farm management software) can support you in optimizing your use of resources and improving your sustainability credentials. Adopting farm management software also means you are well placed to demonstrate compliance with GLOBALG.A.P. standards via data, which can drive improvements to the standard and simply your future certification efforts.
The producer maintains ownership of their shared data. All data that the producer shares with GLOBALG.A.P. via the farm management software is treated confidentially and only shared with other producers in aggregated and anonymized form – e.g., via historical trend graphs, progress reports, and anonymized comparison reports of peer producers.
Producers are not ranked publicly on their performance and personally identifiable data is not shared with other parties.
The reliability of the insights provided via processed data is based on the quality of data provided by the producer. Real and accurate data is necessary for the success of the system and to the producers who can use it to analyze their own production process. Reliability is first and foremost the responsibility of the producer. As a further level of authentication, third-party certification bodies verify a sample of the data during their onsite audit for the Impact-Driven Approach to Sustainability add-on.
