TOUR Stop & Freshcare Forum Australia

Day 1: GLOBALG.A.P. Networking Event

This small, invite only event was arranged as a meeting for prominent industry members (retailers, CB’s managers, Freshcare board representatives) to receive an update on general GLOBALG.A.P. activities and to discuss opportunities and challenges faced by the Australian horticultural industry in relation to food safety and social standards. The event was arranged as an hour long presentation to provide an update on recent events i.e. newly elected board and to provide a brief overview of GLOBALG.A.P. i.e. membership, certificates, sustainability development goals etc. following the presentation the floor was open to questions and comments from all attendees. Following the formal proceedings attendees were provided with drinks and light refreshments.

On the whole feedback from all those that attended was very positive, as few opportunities had been made available in Australia whereby industry members could collectively discuss, debate, challenge etc.

There was a fair amount of discussion around Australian Culture versus culture internationally. Australian growers by and large find that they are being asked to build additional systems and processes for no financial compensation.
There was also discussion around HARPS (the Harmonised Australian Retailer Standard) as well as ethical standards and solid detail around the GRASP program was provided to explain the Add-on.

Day 2: GLOBALG.A.P. Tour & Freshcare Forum

The conference program was designed to deliver updates from both GLOBALG.A.P. and Freshcare on current and future initiatives, developments in food safety best practice, and On-farm assurance and certification options both locally and internationally. The conference was attended by 138 industry representatives including government representatives, industry service providers, primary producers, R&D, retail, supply chain and certification bodies.
