GLOBALG.A.P. TOUR 2017 Bangladesh

On 18 May 2017, GLOBALG.A.P. stopped its global tour to promote good agricultural practices in the world’s most densely populated city and country in the world: Dhaka/Bangladesh. The event was organized together with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and facilitated by USAID’s Feed the Future Bangladesh Agricultural Value Chain Project.

More than 100 participants from the agriculture and food industry, NGO’s and government bodies were informed about GLOBALG.A.P. and its products and services such as the Option 2 (group) certification, the localg.a.p. program, the GLOBALG.A.P. Academy or the GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practices. The company Panbo Bangla Mushroom Ltd., one of two GLOBALG.A.P. certified companies in Bangladesh, and the Certification Body SGS Bangladesh Ltd. shared their experience and motivation for certification.

Apart of being an informative event about certification the aim of this Tour Stop was also to start a process that shall bring Bangladesh and its producers on the map of international retailers as a high-quality export country for Fruit & Vegetables. Therefore, Martin Aguirre, Commercial Manager Fresh Produce, from Spinneys Dubai LLC presented what an international retailer would expect in order to source from Bangladesh. In addition, the Bangladeshi retailer ACI Logistics Ltd/Shwapno presented their rational of becoming a GLOBALG.A.P. member and why they are becoming a program owner for the first localg.a.p. program for Fruit & Vegetables in Bangladesh.

The Tour Stop was followed by the first, out of three, GLOBALG.A.P. Capacity Building & Farm Assurer Workshops where 15 participants learned in detail about GLOBALG.A.P.’s General Regulations and Control Points and Compliance Criteria.
