Public Consultation 3 and Field Trials

For the IFA version 6 documents that have already undergone several feedback and consultation loops, it is now time to commence field trials. Furthermore, another batch of draft documents is now open for public consultation.

Field Trials
Field trials put theory into practice and as such are an extremely important step in the development of new standard versions. Producers and auditors who take part in the field trials experience how the new standard works on the ground and offer constructive feedback on language, content, and levels of the presented principles and criteria. The field trials are voluntary and open to anyone who wishes to take part. All you need to do is:

  • Download the applicable field trial questionnaire
  • Download the applicable IFA draft documents for your scope
  • Complete a trial audit and gather your feedback 
  • Send us your comments and questionnaires to by  22   June or 6 July 2021, depending on the document type*.

*IMPORTANT: Feedback on the principles and criteria for the Legal, Management & Traceability, Production Processes, and Food Safety smart modules , as well as feedback on the rules related to Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements for the Fruit and Vegetables and Aquaculture scopes must be submitted by 22 June.
Feedback on the rest of the contents from the smart modules (for Fruit and Vegetables, Aquaculture, Flower and Ornamentals) as well as on GRASP and the remaining rules may be submitted until 6 July.

Field Trials FAQ

1. Do we need to formally apply? Is there a form for it?

There is no need to apply for participation in the field trials. Simply take the applicable actions detailed below: 
Producers: Please contact your Certification Body to arrange the trial audit.
Certification Body/Auditor: Please reach out to your producer base to find willing collaborators.
Consultant/Farm Assurer:  Please align with your clients to either accompany an arranged trial audit together with a CB or conduct the trial solely with the producer.

2. Will we receive a document package?

You can download all the documents you need for the field trials from the table above.  
The draft versions for IFA v6 for Flowers & Ornamentals and Fruit & Vegetables will be available from 25 May.  
IFA for Aquaculture will be available from the end of May.  

You should also fill out a report after conducting the trials:

3. What is the general procedure and timeline?

Between now and Mid-May: According to your role, please align with the relevant partners to arrange the details of your field trail (i.e., time, date, location, personnel present).
From mid/end-May onwards: You will have the IFA v6 draft documents available to use during the trials audit. The documents will be available in English language and as word document with an extra column for comments. Additionally, you can already find the questionnaires (respective to your role, either labeled as Field Trial Report for Certification Body/Consultant/Farm Assurer or Field Trial Report for Producer).

Who is Involved in the Revision of the IFA Standard?

GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat
  • The GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat provides the draft documents as a basis for consultation.
  • Through the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat, feedback is collected and presented to the relevant focus groups and technical committees.
  • Technical committee and focus group members represent stakeholders from the whole supply chain.
  • The technical committees make the final recommendations to the GLOBALG.A.P. Board on the content and formulation of criteria, keeping in mind the stakeholders whom they represent.
Public stakeholders
  • Stakeholders provide feedback on the content and comprehensibility of the draft versions, drawing on their individual perspectives.
